Fads: Love them or hate them

If you think there are some wacky diet products on the market today, there were also some equally strange ones available for sale many years ago. The strangest one that I have come across so far is Slimming Soap - a soap that is supposed to wash away the kilos as you...well wash with it. This 'miracle' slimming soap first came about in the 1930s but at that time was simply regular old hand soap disguised with random minerals. The soap is still available today through many diet websites but is now marketed as 'made with seaweed' which is alledgedly meant to make you slimmer.

It is obvious that the times have changed but has people's tendency to believe anything marketers tell them sky rocketed?
